Gail is a counsellor/facilitator for Warriors Against Violence Society. Her aboriginal ancestry, Blackfoot, comes from her mother who was born in Montana on the Rocky Boy reserve. Gail has been working with Warriors Against Violence for the past twelve years and began at the request of her husband Daniel Parker who was co-founder of Warriors.
Gail attained her counseling diplomas from Capilano College and the Native Education Centre. Gail has worked extensively with women and families at the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre and the Kiwassa Neighbourhood House as a counselor. Gail’s passion has been to end violence against women. She taught a ‘train the trainer’ program at the Justice Institute of BC in the hopes that more people would continue to work in the field of ending violence against women.
Gail sat on a committee with the Vancouver Police Department that was active in getting the process changed so that police could arrest the perpetrator in a domestic violence situation instead of women having to press charges. Gail has also been a caregiver to her grandchildren and many foster children for over 15 years and loves to be with her family and friends.
Gail’s kind, compassionate and gentle approach to working with abused women, along with the fact that she has ‘walked in their shoes’ has empowered and supported many women in our community to make change in their own lives to continue the ‘ripple effect’ of healing.
